It’s hard to believe that the soundtrack of my college days was filled with Neyo’s soulful melodies—from “So Sick” to “Mad.” Fast forward to today, and finally getting to see him perform live was a really cool experience. I had missed several of his concerts in Manila, but this time, I was determined to be there when he returned.

Revisiting Araneta Coliseum after a decade felt like a journey back in time. The last concert I attended there was in 2014, where I had an unforgettable meet and greet with Jessie J. As I approached the venue, memories of those carefree college days flooded my mind, filled with laughter, friends, and Neyo’s music as the backdrop to our adventures.

With excitement coursing through me, I left the office early, ready to make my way to Cubao. I hailed a Grab ride from Pasay at 6 PM, eager to arrive well before showtime. Little did I know, the journey would be anything but smooth. Traffic was a nightmare, with roads under construction and congestion at every turn. My heart sank when our driver had to make a stop near Gilmore due to a mix-up with another cab. I could feel the clock ticking down, and the thought of missing Neyo’s performance sent me into a mini panic.

Just when I thought things couldn’t get worse, it started pouring rain. The driver circled around, desperately searching for the venue entrance while we sat in gridlock. I envisioned myself sprinting from the station if we didn’t make it in time. After what felt like an eternity, I finally arrived—2 hours and 15 minutes later!

Rushing to the restroom, I felt a wave of relief as I heard Neyo’s voice echoing through the venue. He opened with “Closer,” and just like that, all the stress faded away. The atmosphere was electric, and I felt a rush of nostalgia as memories of my college days flooded back with every note.

Neyo truly knows how to put on a show. His energy was infectious, and he effortlessly danced while belting out hits. One of the highlights was when he invited three lucky ladies to join him on stage. The joy and exhilaration in their faces as they danced alongside him were contagious. The crowd erupted in cheers, making the experience even more thrilling.

Unlike other concerts I’ve attended, the internet connection was flawless, allowing fans to share the experience live. It felt like we were all connected, creating a shared memory that extended beyond the venue. I couldn’t help but capture as much as I could on video, wanting to relive every moment later.

Being near the stage was a thrill in itself. The energy radiating from Neyo and the audience was palpable. Each song transported me back to specific moments in my life—nights spent with friends, quiet evenings alone, and everything in between. I found myself singing along, lost in the music, the memories intertwining with the present.

Love,
Maria, sometimes, Niskie

Quote of the week

“Here’s my advice for dealing with love or family trauma: accept the apology you’re never going to get and move on. There, I just saved you PHP10,000 in therapy. You’re welcome.”
