“Miss Saigon” is a powerful musical that’s been captivating audiences since its premiere in 1989. Set in the final days of the Vietnam War, it tells the tragic tale of a romance between an American GI named Chris and a Vietnamese bar girl named Kim. The musical is known for its emotional storyline, memorable music by Claude-Michel Schönberg, and lyrics by Alain Boublil and Richard Maltby Jr.
One of the most iconic aspects of “Miss Saigon” is its stunning theatrical production, including elaborate sets and evocative staging that transport audiences to the streets of Saigon during the war. The show tackles themes of love, loss, sacrifice, and the human cost of war, making it a deeply moving experience for many viewers.i

“Miss Saigon” ranks among the most captivating musicals I’ve ever experienced. Its intimate portrayal feels deeply relatable, particularly for Filipinos who often see their own stories mirrored in its themes. The narrative of finding love, starting a family, and seeking a better life abroad resonates profoundly. I’m filled with a longing to revisit this stirring musical once more.
Love,
Maria, sometimes, Niskie
