Cake, cuddles, and chaos—celebrating my husky’s birthday was paws-itively unforgettable! Curious how we celebrated this fluffy milestone? Read my blog!

Batangas, Philippines

In honor of my husky’s barkday, I traveled back to Batangas. I didn’t want to go all out with decorations like we do for human celebrations, both because she wouldn’t enjoy them and because I hate cleaning up after parties.

Although she looks like a wolf and will chase small animals if she gets the chance, my dog is actually rather sociable and makes for a poor watchdog. If you rub her belly, though, she’ll happily follow you anywhere. Having a Siberian husky isn’t for everyone, especially those who lead a sedentary lifestyle, but I’m certain she was destined to be mine.

Her actual birthday is July 5, but I have to travel back to Manila for urgent work. I’ve been with her for three days already, and tomorrow we’ll travel back to Manila to celebrate her actual barkday.

For her birthday, we took her on an adventure that included a trip to the groomer (Makoy’s), lunch at a popular Filipino eatery (Lipa Grill), a visit to the Outlets Dogpark so she could run about and play, and pupcakes from Purrfect Tails. Our dogs, Phoebe and Joey, and us have had a wonderful barkday.

Makoy’s Petshop and Pet Grooming Center
MCS Buidling, P. Torres St.
Lipa, Batangas
Price: Varies depending on weight Php700-2,000
Accepts Cash and Gcash

The owner’s dog, a Siberian husky named Makoy, inspired the shop’s name. They offer a variety of dog grooming services, dog training programs, a pet hotel (where pets can stay while their owners are out of town), and a variety of other products and services related to pets.

Makoy is our go-to for pet grooming services and supplies since they are knowledgeable about animal care and their prices are far lower than those at other pet stores.

Lipa Grill Restaurant
Antipolo del Norte, Lipa City
Php300-1,000
Accepts Cash, Credit/Debit Cards

While waiting for Phoebe to finish getting dolled up, we grabbed some lunch at a place close to Makoy’s called Lipa Grill. This Lipa restaurant is famous for its authentic and reasonably priced Filipino fare. I enjoy that I can bring my dog with me, and that they have nipa huts outside the establishment so that I can eat in the fresh air, Filipino-style. Despite the fact that most of the dishes were too salty for my liking, I would not recommend this establishment as the first choice for my friends who are visiting me from outside of Batangas. Instead than taking them out to a restaurant if they just want Filipino food, I’d rather have them in our house for a home-cooked supper.

PurrfectTails Cafe
The Outlets Lipa City
Php100-500
Accepts Cash/Gcash payment

We picked up Phoebe from Makoy’s after lunch, and the two of them spent some time at the Outlets Dog Park before enjoying some pupcakes. They had a great time in the Dog Park and at Purrfect Tails Cafe, where they devoured pupcakes. Pupcakes come in a wide range of tastes at this bakery, from banana to liver. After attempting to get a cake for my dog Phoebe’s barkday via a Facebook message that went unanswered, I cannot recommend this business. The cafe was great for dogs because they had pupcakes, but I wished there were more dog food available. I hope they improve their customer service. However, our dogs benefited greatly from the trip. Next time, I’ll definitely check out some other pet cafes.

Having Phoebe and Joey are a life changing experience for me, I always want to go back home to visit them. They add meaning to my life and will forever treasure my time spent with them. I like celebrating birthdays especially for people who I care most about because if we don’t celebrate the milestone, we are just passing on with the time.

Love,
Maria, sometimes, Niskie

Quote of the week

“Here’s my advice for dealing with love or family trauma: accept the apology you’re never going to get and move on. There, I just saved you PHP10,000 in therapy. You’re welcome.”
