From tiki cocktails to midnight dimsum, one unforgettable Poblacion night with friends who flew in just to make memories again.
If you’ve been following along, you already know Poblacion holds a special place in my heart. It was literally the first place my friends dragged me to when quarantine finally lifted and honestly? Best decision ever. I’ve been going back ever since.
This time around, it was extra special. My friends from Singapore were in Manila, and there was absolutely no question about where we were headed.
Where I Stayed: Hop Inn Poblacion
For a night out in Poblacion, you don’t need a fancy hotel, you need something clean, close, and easy on the wallet. Hop Inn delivered exactly that at PHP 1,715/night. Two single beds, great lighting, genuinely lovely staff, a water dispenser in the hallway, and most importantly, a spotless bathroom. Check-in is at 2PM, check-out at 12NN. Nothing revolutionary, but everything you actually need.
Pre-Game Coffee: Beslu
I arrived early, so I wandered over to Beslu, a cute café just a five-minute walk from the hotel. They have an alfresco area that I imagine is lovely on a good day, unfortunately, the rain had other plans. I ordered a large salted caramel macchiato (PHP 215) and… look, it was massive. Like, suspiciously large. It was also quite sweet for my taste, so I took it to go and, if I’m being honest, didn’t quite finish it. Still, a solid spot to kill time before the night began.
The Reunion
Here’s the thing about old friends, time collapses the moment you see them. One second it’s been months, and the next you’re mid-sentence finishing each other’s stories.
My Singapore crew and I have history. We had a whole checklist of brunch spots we worked through in Raffles and East Coast. We bar-hopped along Club Street and Clarke Quay more times than I can count. We even did a beach clean-up once which, full disclosure, we did not finish. (We tried, okay?)
Seeing them in Manila felt like picking up exactly where we left off.
Buccaneers: Where the Night Began (And Where I Peaked)
We had a reservation at Buccaneers at 10PM, rebooked from earlier because our friend Tin was flying in from Singapore at 9. We arrived to find our table a little on the dim side, but the staff kindly sorted it out without any fuss.
There’s a PHP 3,000 consumable minimum per reserved table. We ended up at PHP 4,500, mostly on tiki cocktails and sangria. Tropical, colorful, dangerously drinkable.
I should mention that it had been a while since I’d had a proper night out. Which is the only explanation I have for being thoroughly drunk by the end of bar number one.
Filling Station → Ringside
Our next stop was Filling Station, but Valentine’s Day had other ideas — fully booked, long wait, no luck. So we pivoted to Ringside, and seriously? Best pivot of the night.
Ringside is chaotic in the best way. There were midget boxing matches happening in the middle of the bar, the energy was electric, and we had more drinks we did not need. (Pay first when you order, just a heads up.) It was loud, it was fun, it was exactly the kind of place you end up on a great night out.
Late-Night Salvation: North Park
We stumbled back to the hotel at some point, made the excellent decision to order delivery from North Park, and I have to say, the noodles and dimsum were incredible. Maybe the best I’ve had. Now, was that because North Park Poblacion is genuinely superior? Or because drunk-me has very generous standards? I’ll let you decide. Either way, I’d order it again sober.
The Morning After
I had grand plans for breakfast at Kanto Style Breakfast the next day. Sunday queue said otherwise. I took one look, accepted my fate, and headed home. No regrets.
Poblacion never misses. Whether it’s the first time or the tenth, it always delivers — good bars, good food, and if you’re lucky, good people to share it with.
