Highlights: Adventure, Food, and Christmas Eve Magic

This is a continuation of my previous blog. After finally meeting my brother’s fiancé and visiting Tagaytay and Laiya, it was time to switch things up with a bit more adventure near Lipa City—starting with Batangas Lakelands and ending at Bahay Baluk-Baluk, just in time for Christmas.

Unlimited adventure for PHP 900: rapelling, zipline, archery, and biking
I last visited this place back in 2021, and a lot has changed since then. I was genuinely excited to try the activities again, finally something for the adrenaline junkie in me and not just another food stop (although let’s be real, food is still life when traveling, so no complaints there 😆).
The vibe was incredible when we arrived. It honestly felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. While most people were busy doing last-minute Christmas Eve prep or grocery runs, we were out here choosing adventure instead, soaking in the quiet and enjoying the space almost like it was a private playground.
We paid PHP 900 for access to unlimited activities, including zipline, biking, rappelling, archery, and wall climbing. Just a quick heads-up about the “unlimited” adventure pass: once you finish an activity, you can’t repeat it. For example, if you choose zipline, you can only do it during that turn, you can’t switch to another activity and then come back to zipline again. That’s what they mean by “unli.” A little funny at first, but honestly, still okay and worth the experience.
Lewdan was clearly the most excited for the zipline, it was his first time, and he went for it twice without hesitation. I, on the other hand, only did it once. When it was my turn, the wind was a little too strong for comfort, and let’s just say my bravery had limits that day 😅. Josh also gave the zipline two rounds, while Yves decided to sit this one out entirely, he wasn’t feeling it, and honestly, fair enough.
We moved on to biking next, but the heat quickly humbled us. One round was more than enough under the sun, though it was nice to see that they now have a cafeteria in the area definitely a welcome addition.
Archery was easily one of my favorite activities. There’s something oddly satisfying about it, and for a moment, I was fully channeling my inner Katniss Everdeen. We wrapped things up with a vintage car tour to get a better look around the area, which was a relaxing way to end the activities.
While we had a great time, I do wish there were more activities available—longer biking routes, hiking trails, a massive swing, or even roller-coaster-style ziplines would make the experience even more exciting. More food options would be a bonus too. That said, spending the day laughing and trying new things with family made the experience worth it.

After wrapping up our activities, we headed to Bahay Baluk-Baluk, about 45 minutes from Batangas Lakelands. We went by private car, so I can’t really provide commuting tips, getting here via public transport would be tricky since buses and tricycles are very limited in the area.
By the time we arrived, we were starving and couldn’t wait to try the food. Josh was also eager to see Taal Lake, and luckily, the restaurant offers a stunning view of it. The place is open-air, letting the cool breeze do its thing, and their menu follows a farm-to-table concept, meaning everything is fresh and flavorful. We ordered calamares, pinakbet, ginumis (mixed fruits in shaved ice with milk), and lechon kawali. Once you’re done eating, you can even smack the gong if you had a great time, definitely a fun touch!
A few practical notes: the restaurant only accepts cash, so make sure to bring some since there’s no nearby ATM. They also charge an environmental fee of PHP 20, and if you want takeout, each container costs PHP 30. It’s a bit pricey, but honestly, the experience is worth it. I’d definitely recommend this spot to friends who want to enjoy Taal Lake views without going all the way to Tagaytay.
After a wonderful meal at the restaurant, we headed back home in Lipa to rest and get ready for Christmas. For dinner, we stuck to our favorite takeout orders from Jake’s—spaghetti, bihon/pansit, barbecue, lumpiang shanghai, and fresh lumpia. Of course, we also indulged in desserts: cake, pichi-pichi, brownies, and cassava cake, generously brought by Malen and Tito and Tita (Lewds’ in-laws). The evening was made even better with the company of my doggies, Phoebe and Joey.
Spending quality time with family, enjoying good food, and celebrating together made the day truly special. I had so much fun and can’t wait to share the next part of this Send-Off Era adventure with you all.
Merry Christmas and happy holidays! 🎄

Love,
Maria
