Date of Musical Play – October 26, 2023
The Theatre At Solaire, Parañaque City
Hamilton which won Tony Award for Best Musical had its Asian premiere in the Philippines in September 2023. It is a musical that chronicles the narrative of American founding father Alexander Hamilton through hip-hop, jazz, R&B, and Broadway. I really enjoyed this musical because I’m a huge fan of hip-hop and R&B. It was also cool to know that Rachel Ann Go who is a Filipina played Eliza Hamilton (wife of Alexander Hamilton). She first performed Eliza Hamilton on London’s West End. And now she’s doing it in her homeland, Philippines, bringing the legendary role full circle. Seeing her perform in person was amazing, and the fact that I get to witness the play in the Philippines further added to the magic.
I was glad to witness this show and bought tickets in advance because it was swiftly sold out. I learned a lot about Alexander Hamilton and American history. This show had no dull moments and I thoroughly loved it! I can’t wait to see more musical productions in the Philippines. I was with bff Toby who watched this show.
Hamilton created a revolutionary moment in theatre – a musical that has had a tremendous impact on culture, politics and education.

Before and After the Show
I arrived in Manila at 6 p.m., left my belongings at our office because it was close to the theater, and returned by 11 p.m. to get my belongings. We also ate at the Mall of Asia’s lengthy beachfront boulevard (Hediu Grill Station) because most restaurants were open till late. I didn’t like the food, and it was expensive. I stayed in Hop Inn in Ortigas, 30 minutes away by car from our office in Pasay, which cost PHP2,065 per night. I stayed for two nights so I can get my braces fixed on October 27 (my last dentist visit was in February!) and to attend my friend Makis’ wedding on October 28. I enjoyed my stay because everything was within walking distance from establishments. On October 29 after I checked out, I met up with my friends Toby and Mike to chill out. We went to coffee shops like Key Coffee (I enjoyed their variety of cream puffs, especially because I can only eat soft food due to my braces), had lunch at Mamma Mia, and had coffee again at Wildflour in Uptown BGC. I got home at 8 p.m., thanks to the fact that there is already a terminal traveling to Batangas (Alps bus line) in Market Market BGC. I had an awesome time in Manila!
