I watched this musical with my friend,Toby
My dad and I went to see Rock of Ages on November 1, 2014, my first introduction to musical theatre at the Meralco Theatre in the Philippines. Mig Ayesa (who also appeared in the London Broadway version) played the lead role. Spending time with my dad made it even more delightful. My younger brother Yves has always had a deep appreciation for musical theater, and it was through him that I was first exposed to the genre. He urged me to give it a look. I last saw a musical with him at The Theatre at Solaire on October 26, 2019. The title was Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street with Leah Salonga as one of the characters. I too saw The Lion King on November 27th, 2018 in the Marina Bay Sands Sands Theater in Singapore. It was a truly spectacular show.
The Sound of Music was the fourth musical play I’ve seen. I watched the movie version of the musical first to get a feel for the story. It takes place in 1938 Austria and is based on the memoir of the same name by the Trapp family.
In the movie, Julie Andrews played Maria; in the play, Jill Christine-Wiley played the role. Maria is the major character, and she captured my attention. I fell in love with every musical note and rhythm. Although I had already seen the movie, I appreciated how the storyline had been rearranged so that viewers could easily understand it.
The Sound of Music is a timeless masterpiece that I will always sing along to, with songs like Do Re Mi How Do You Find A Word That Means Maria and My Favorite Things. Because my mother used to sing these classic songs to us as kids, these songs recall fond memories of her. I adore this musical performance, especially when I saw it in the Philippines where local performers Karylle and Marki Stroem appeared. I enjoy seeing musicals!
Love,
Maria, sometimes, Niskie
