Batangas, Philippines
After our adventure in Batangas Lakelands, we headed over to a gastronomical adventure – restaurant hopping! 🙂
Ramen Co
Grovepark Commercial
JP Laurel Lipa, City
Price – Php250-500
I was pleasantly impressed with the price at a Japanese restaurant in Lipa because it was affordable. Ramen costs only PHP 250.00. The ramen noodles, while authentic, were thin, as was the broth. In addition, we ordered maki rolls and sushi rolls. The maki rolls were filled with crab meat and shrimp and topped with mango; the rice in the okonomi maki was wrapped in dried seaweeds. We ordered California Torch (with mango on top), Okokonomi Maki (with seaweeds), Gyoza, Original Tonkatsu Ramen, and Red Ramen (spicy) for all of our courses. This isn’t my favourite type of ramen.
Although not my favorite Japanese restaurant, I’d still go back to hang out with friends if I am in the area.

Mousehole
Grovepark Commercial
JP Laurel Lipa, City
Price – Php250-550
This eatery is right next to Ramen Co, which is a cheese shop. We came here for dessert and got Chicken Pop Fondue, Lemon Sorbet, and affogato. Because I didn’t want to drink in the afternoon, I ordered a mocktail. Everything we ordered did not appeal to me. The chicken pop was flavourless, the cheese was not creamy, and the lemon sorbet was little more than blended ice. It was a letdown for my taste buds. Although the atmosphere was cosy, I have had nicer bars to recommend and would not return.

Hungry Hippo
Food truck near S&R,
Opposite Jollibee in Lipa
Price -Php150-300
Update August 18, 2023 – Hungry Hippo stall already closed
I’d certainly recommend Hungry Hippo to friends visiting Batangas. I prefer my burgers to be simple: a juicy patty, cheddar cheese, and a good old bun. The simpler the ingredients, the tastier the burger. For me, it’s all about the patty and bun, and Hungry Hippo offers both! I was extremely upset when they closed their business in Lipa near the cathedral, but thankfully, they now have their own food truck. It’s a miracle! You can order takeout, delivery, or dine in, but only on the truck’s top!
Love,
Maria, sometimes Niskie
